Plan your visitAbout Amimoto Japanese Restaurant
Tucked inside Lido Arcade away from the neon strips, Amimoto operates like a classic shokudo—bare walls, plastic chairs, and focus dialed squarely on the plate. Multi-year regulars tracking the recent change of hands note the kitchen hasn't missed a beat. The pull is simple: chirashi bowls mounded with sliced fish, glazed eel over rice, and sweet Tasmanian sea urchin served whole. Bring your own drinks—corkage runs two dollars a glass. Bowls of hot ramen arrive fast at corridor tables, while the staff set out children's utensils before anyone thinks to ask.
- Ocean-Fresh Bowls: Regulars line up for chirashi don bowls layered with thick cuts of fresh seafood and sweet, creamy Tasmanian uni served whole.
- Enduring Classics: Longtime patrons confirm comfort staples like savory unagi ju, pork katsu don, and rich noodle broths retain their time-tested character under the new kitchen team.
- No-Frills Arcade Setting: Tucked deep in Lido Arcade with plastic chairs and corridor seating, dining stays casual with straightforward hospitality and a low corkage fee.

Dowoo Kim Fresh, Generous Sashimi and Donburi Bowls
Diners enjoy generous donburi and chirashi bowls highlighting an abundant variety of pristine seafood prepared fresh to order.
The sashimi was super fresh and there was a great variety of different fish, which made it even better.
Charlotte Woo Authentic Hidden-Arcade Setting
Tucked inside the aged Lido Arcade away from street-level tourist crowds, the intimate dining space captures the feel of an authentic Japanese neighborhood shokudo.
It's the kind of place that feels like a local secret – small kitchen, a few tables, always busy.

Most popular items
Authentic, time-honored Japanese comfort staples praised by long-standing locals and visitors.
Chirashi Don
Even after all these years, this is still, without a doubt, the best Chirashi Don you can find in Australia.
Kay Lee Unagi Ju
To be honest, we were a bit nervous about whether the flavour of our favourite dish — the Unagi Ju — would change after the change of owner and chef team. But after taking the first bite, we were genuinely relieved. It tastes just as good as before!
Lempicka XU Tasmanian Uni
The biggest surprise was the sea urchin (uni). I was expecting the usual Canadian uni which can be a bit bitter, but this one was creamy and sweet – much closer to the Japanese quality I've had before.
Calvin Wong Ramen
The ramen was also nice, with a comforting flavour.
