Do I need a rental car for a week on the Gold Coast?

I will stay for six days and want beaches and meals, with perhaps one hinterland outing. Which parts work well by public transport, and when would a car help?

    If most days are around the coastal tram corridor, choose accommodation near a current G:link stop and use Translink's journey planner for the rest. Check the exact beach or restaurant address: the coast stretches well beyond a single tram ride.
